Visit PKU CAMEL Delegation to Oman

 

 

From January 24th to 29th, 2019, China-Arabia Multicultural Exchange Link (CAMEL) from Peking University paid a visit to Oman during its winter session. The session was directed by Office of International Relations, Peking University and School of Foreign Languages, Peking University. The delegation consisted of undergraduates, masters and doctoral students from School of Foreign Languages, School of Economics, Department of Sociology, Guanghua School of Management in Peking University and Tsinghua University. During the visit, delegates visited famous universities, media, enterprises and the Chinese embassy, conducted in-depth academic exchanges and rich cultural experiences.

 

 

 

Sultan Qaboos University

 

On the morning of Jan 24th, PKU teachers and students visited the archaeology department in Sultan Qaboos University and were warmly welcomed by Mr. Khalil Ibrahim Al Hashami a a member of Office of international relations. Mr. Khalil introduced the history of Oman and its development through the Silk Road, which served as an important link for trade and cultural exchange with China. Students gained a more concrete idea about the famous ship-building industry of Oman and its trade in ancient times, especially with China, upon seeing the antiques displayed in the window. After thinking, students raised questions regarding different aspects of Oman, and communicated in a friendly atmosphere.

 

 

Later, led by Mr. Dhiyab Mohammed Ali Al Waail, a member of Office of international relations, students visited the library and auditorium of Sultan Qaboos University.

 

 

On top of this, students received many books because of their strong interest in Arabic culture. During lunch, students and faculty sat together and chatted with each other in English and Arabic. Everyone had deepened their understanding of Oman in terms of politics, economics and culture.

 

 

 

Oman Embassy of People’s Republic of China

 

On the morning of January 27th, Li Lingbing, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman, met with student delegates from CAMEL. Ambassador Li Lingbing listened to the students' feelings about their trips and visits in Qatar and Oman. After that, she related to her work experience in Dubai and Muscat to compare the similarities and differences between the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Oman in political, economic, cultural and social fields. Counselor Luo Yuxiao then held a lunch communication with delegatesfrom PKU.

 

 

Ambassador Li said that Oman is a country with a long history and beautiful environment. China and Oman have long-term friendship and have established a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2018. she pointed out that social and cultural communication is an important part of bilateral cooperation between China and Oman, and wished the CAMEL program a complete success.

 

 

 

Branch office of Huawei in Oman

 

On the afternoon of January 27th, the delegates of China-Arabia Multicultural Exchange Link visited Huawei's branch office in Oman under the guidance of deputy general manager He Chunlei and solution director Wang Kefei.

 

 

Director Wang Kefei introduced Huawei's main business, corporate culture and Huawei's development process in Oman. Then students discussed in depth the challenges of cultural differences, local government policies and customer relationship management in the development of enterprise with the two managers.

 

 

 

International College of Engineering and Management (ICEM)

 

On the morning of Jan 28th, CAMEL students visited the International College of Engineering and Management (ICEM) located in Muscat, Oman. Mohammed Al Issai, acting assistant dean for student affairs and registration, hosted a warm welcome talk and introduced the programs of this college. ICEM provides practical courses for students and experienced workers in mechanical engineering, fire safety, etc. As the first college in the Middle East area, ICEM has over 20 years' history and many students from over 28 nationalities.

 

 

Later on, following the fire safety instructor of their program, students had a first-hand experience in the training. They were situated in mock conditions of what needed to be dealt with by firefighters in real life. Through this experience, students understood better the hardships of firemen with more respect to them, as well as the local education on engineering management.

 

 

 

Oman Al-Tafahom Newspaper

 

On the morning of January 28th, delegates from the China-Arabia Multicultural exchange Link visited the Ministry of Awqaf & Religious Affairs of Oman under the guidance of minister Abdulrahman. Abdulrahman first listened to students' thoughts about Oman, then introduced the functions of the ministry and the situation of the Ibadi in Oman. This exchange of views helped with the understanding of religious affairs in an in-depth perspective.

 

 

 

The German University of Technology in Oman

 

On the afternoon of January 28th, delegates from the China-Arabia Multicultural Exchange Link visited the German University of Technology in Oman under the guidance of professor Mohammed Al Issai. Professor first introduced their cooperation with German universities, local enrollment situation and student cultivation plan, then both sides had an in-depth communication on education affairs.
